13th Central and Eastern European Film Festival
8-25 October 2020
The 13th edition of CinEast, the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg, presents a wide selection of some of the best recent films produced in more than 20 countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, this year CinEast will take the form of a ?hybrid festival?, by combining regular screenings in cinemas with screenings available online.
Between 8 and 25 October, more than 45 feature films and 30 shorts of all genres will be screened in Luxembourg at the Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ancien Cinema (Vianden) and other venues in and around the city. In addition to physical screenings fully compliant with the safety protocols, the CinEast audience will for the first time be offered online content to complement the screenings in cinemas. This will compensate for the reduced capacities of physical venues and offer the possibility, especially to vulnerable groups, to watch a selection of films at home.
The festival programme features the annual photo exhibition Planting the Future. Our planet and societies at a crossroads (Neimënster), which invites visitors to discover a selection of photographic projects underpining the festival reflection on the unsustainability of our relationship with the environment, and our social and economic models, so as to consider the paths open for action and change. Various accompanying events will enrich the festival programme, including the Opening concert with the Hungarian gypsy swing band, Canarro (9/10, Melusina), combining music and food; the Apero Jazz with the Polish ensemble HeFi Quartet performing a ciné-concert (25/10, Neimënster), and the Closing concert in the form of café-concert (23/10, Melusina). The Festival also hopes to be able to welcome around 20 special guests, through a combination of in-person and online attendances this year. They will meet audiences during Q&A sessions after selected screenings and take part in several ciné-debates.
